Retrospective - Lift Off...

Archives - 2000 - Span 8 - 12 x 12 - encaustic

Okay... 36 paintings are loaded in the van, more than is needed or the space will hold but that will be sorted out when I get there tomorrow. These paintings represent six cornerstone series on which my development has pivoted. It was difficult, but inlightening, deciding what qualified and what didn't... such as landscapes, which have been central to my work since the beginning, are not included, nor are still lifes or florals. The series represented are: Stripes, Leaves, Knots, Tracks, Geo-Abstracts and Bokushos.

I could have done this up with a lot more flourish... I could have printed a Blurb book (I will later) and done lots of promotion... but that's not my style, never was. This is simply a tracing of work through a period of time, a look back to see where the path turned, and why... where the road was smoother, or not... how I got from there to here, from then to now. I've never seen the space before... have no idea of how it will look when hung because a lot of it is quite incongruious, but perhaps that will be the interesting part.

Fingers crossed that the weather holds and ice is not a factor...

"...on which my development has pivoted..." Glory! Where did THAT come from? Forgive...

Karen, I do like the way you talk about your career, with paths, roads, bends... It makes it alive and prompt your readers to follow these roads in imagination.

I forgot to add that a Blurb book would definitely complement your blog beautifully.
