News Fit To Print...

Haven't been posting as I've hit a slump and thoughts worth sharing aren't jumping to the fore. Well, that and the fact that I finally got that iMac I've long wanted and now realize just how atrophied my learning skills have become! Hey! Mac's were supposed to be a piece of cake! Would be a whole lot easier if all those buttons on the keyboard lower left worked just a little bit like a PC's... I'm sure it will make me a happy camper in due time, with even more due time spent on the learning curve.

Will go buy a how-to for iMac dummies when the rain lets up. Gotta figure out how to adjust the contrast... my white point is a bit extreme and the text size needs to be permanently enlarged... not just for one page at a time. Got this huge screen and the print has shrunk to itty-bitty... changing resolutions makes it bigger, but fuzzier. I won't even go into the iPhoto mess I made... what ever happened to folders and detail views? Gotta delete all relative PC info from my brain... with my luck I'll delete the wrong stuff and then where would I be? Oh geeze... can't lose it all... I still have three (very old but working) PC's in the house...

The following is a post I forgot to upload...

The panel painting is finished, received approval from the contact person, who probably has to check with others as I haven't heard anything about pick-up or delivery as yet. Turned out to be both easy and interesting to recreate the same painting... I didn't work closely with details until the end. Duplicating exactly was not the point as I imagine they picked it for general attributes, not details... seems it's to be installed over escalators so. I did enjoy checking my hi-def image to see what was actually going on in areas where little explosions occur at junctions of fields of color. I could do more of this sort of thing... kinda mindless for the most part. Eliminates all the searching for good, eliminating bad, hoping for best.

Hi Karen.

You will find that with iphoto there will be folders somewhere on your imac with the original jpg's as well as a folder called "altered". I found that most helpful when I didn't like what I changed in iphoto.

Still, I wish I still had Photoshop. Now that program has all of the bells and whistles!

I love how saturated the red is in your painting. Of course, I DO have a thing for red...

There's a FOLDER for ALTERED??? Whoa! I just made a mess out of a test photo and can't get it back... will do more searching. Could never figure out how to make a copy of the original so I could edit without concern... but seems that I often figure out things after a bit of trial and error. I saw a page of folders a few attempts ago but didn't leave a breadcrumb trail. At least I know it's there somewhere. Thanks for the hints!

I did the same thing a couple of months ago because Photoshop was crashing my pc constantly.

I got Scott Kelby's book, The Mac OSX Leopard Book (How to do the things you want to do on your Mac) which helped a lot. I still haven't figured out the font problem though, I switched to Entourage which is somewhat better to see than Apple Mail. If I could only figure out how to only view bigger and then send at about 10-12. Let me know if you figure this out.

And, don't ask me how long it took before my prints were calibrated to my monitor either! Finally have it down.

So yes, some things are intuitive, but not all. On the other hand, it hasn't crashed once!

Good luck!

Joanie, I will miss Paint Shop Pro, which is very similar to Photoshop but cheaper and not so computer hoggish... learned on it many years ago but it doesn't do iMacs so will need something that will tend to the few things I depend on... maybe Elements. Looks like I'll have both computers running for awhile yet, most of my art related programs are old and incompatible so more learning curves in store. My color looks fine but my whitepoint is a wash-out! I need to talk to an apple genius... and see if they really are!

Nice replication, Karen. The new piece is just different enough to have some good energy. "little explosions" -- love that thought!

Thanks, Annette... the differences make me nervous when I see them together... hoping they don't expect a machine-like copy!

The painting is gorgeous, of course!! Even knowing you found it easy and enjoyable.

I blew through your town at 7 a.m. the other morning. I knew you'd appreciate my not having called.

;)
