Lost and Found...

the temporarily misplaced...
2008 - Penumbra - 48x72

With surplus inventory lining the halls and walls, leaning against door frames and basically just in the way, I invited the owner of my local gallery to come over and pick and choose. I'll be making a delivery run to NOLA in a couple of weeks, there's plenty to go around even with Atlanta needing updating before summer's end. He chose a good sized batch and returned a few from his inventory... all went well...

Then I set aside the NOLA destined paintings and took a few down to the studio for slight to severe reworking... not unusual for me to have second thoughts when I see work after it's been out of sight/mind. Add to this... at least a dozen works in progress and you can imagine that I'm searching for fresh air! The studio is full to overflowing... how do I let this happen? Too much work hangin' round is suffocating to say the least!

In the "It Figures" column:
So as I was recounting and updating my database after closing out the Memphis gallery, I realized I was missing a 72" painting (red, too... how does one overlook a 72" red painting?) So I emailed my error to the gallery and heard back with the good news that it's out on approval to a lawyer's office... doncha love it? Really makes one rethink the quality of one's personal judgment! Or lack thereof.

Never mind... I really feel I did the right thing, I need to breathe deeper and more serenely... this is not a time to cram. I just need to clear out the traffic jam in the studio so that might actually be doable... there's this lake I know about... just right for serene, deep breathing...

I once paid back some commission and later was able to collect for a 'missing' sale. Just goes to show -- good records make everyone happier. Hope you get a check and not the painting!

I hope the lawyers go for it, that is a beauty! And I agree there is a point when there is just too many paintings in the studio, you can become overwhelmed with too much visual distraction as well as a feeling of getting closed in physically and mentally. May your excess paintings find homes soon--!

Somehow, I'm almost glad I accidentally left one painting behind in Memphis. It's too big to ship and with gas the way it is, it will probably stay there until it sells or someone is going it that (or this) direction. I do hope they sell it... sort of a going away present to a fine gallery.
