Scratch Where It Itches...

2003 - Fields - 30x30

Deep intellectual subject du jour... scratch where it itches.

Or you could say: paint what you WANT to paint. Or: paint to SELL, paint to PLEASE others, paint what's EXPECTED of you. Or... if you're sick of the studio and would rather be raking leaves in preparation of spring flowers... just do it! I am so in need of a change of routine I even entertained the thought of letting the whole gallery thing wind down to a peaceful demise... let it sputter and die, leaving me to piddle around with no demands. Um, what time is it? February? Yep, right on schedule... pre-spring fever!

So, then the phone rings and it's my NOLA gallery and she says to expect a check for two (2) paintings just purchased by a grandmother for her dear granddaughter! Just about got whiplash getting my head back on straight!

Can't count on such happenings to keep crazy ideas from pushing me off track so I will just have to focus on having a bit more balance in my life... I have since begun to rake out the beds around the house on this lovely day... it's time to make pretty, time for dirt therapy, time to browse the nurseries and plan... and not forget that we're not yet out of the drought...

The above painting was one of the lucky ones to find a home...

It is definitely all about balance. And great painting...love the scratchiness.

When I'm itchy it's always more satisfying when someone else does the scratching- I would think that selling two pieces is a very satisfying dose to fight pre-spring fever.

Thanks for the chuckle!

...and I would say it is the painting's owner who was lucky to have it come live with them! It is a beautiful work!

And great news about your other sales in NO! That does help get you going again. Maybe your balance is doing what you have been doing and painting some for galleries and some for yourself!

Whatever you are doing, it sounds as though you should keep doing it.

Inspiring post, for all of us!

hehehe...sure know what you're talking about. Two good messages over two days to shake me from my winter doldrums, too.

Just as I was really making a dent in getting the leaves out of my garden, the temp plummets to freezing again and I'm back at square one... but I found a daffodil in bud in a warm, sunny spot near the house... soon!
