Been spending more time at lake and I'll have to figure out how to download and save all my 'reads' at the local McD's (free wifi) in the time it takes to drink a cup of their much improved coffee... who needs Starbucks? Then take the ole laptop back to the deck to read during a rest stop. That way I can better keep up with what's going on in the world of art blogs.
Now the proud owners of a pedal boat! I'd like to think I might do some sketching from it, looking back toward the shore... but then, I'd also planned to sketch the view from the deck and that hasn't developed. But I'd be away from distractions, out there on the water... except I'd probably just get settled in and need a potty break. See... already making excuses! What is it with that? I really want to do more drawing... have all the gear (the money has been spent, maybe that was the fun part?) Maybe I'll go back to Jacie's post and see what kind of pen turned out that fanciful piece of work... maybe I'm intimidated... umm, I'll think of some reason to keep putting it off. There's always another room to be painted.
The painting above is a variation of landscapes from the past, I see things that should be changed, and I don't believe the green patch in the foreground is as Thalo as it appears here. Already delivered to the gallery so will have to take a closer look. Pure Thalo green is my least fav color so not likely I'd leave it like that. Later...

Oh you just totally made my day! Thanks Karen! Believe me, no one is more intimidated than me when it comes to drawing with ink. I just picked up a uniball fine tip off the desk (gratis of the Canadian Forces)and started in. Oh I used pencil too and erased. Believe me, sometimes it seems like more miracle than talent when I get a drawing like this to work. A stetchbook reduces the intimidation factor ( not faced with a big expensive blank sheet of paper) , it is made for making boo boos and experimenting.
I get so nervous before I start a drawing, this makes me run to pee at a constant rate. I'm worse than an new born puppy!

I like the division of space in your landscape painting. So many of the landscapes, rely on horizontal orientation. It's good to hear someone else complain about Thalo green, it always behaves like a willful child...
I started using pens almost exclusively in my sketchbook a year ago. Previously, I was being too much of a perfectionist, though there is a place for that. It forces me to live with bad mark making decisions, and accept that mistakes are part of learning. Now I use microns and cheap gel pens. I've since developed a looser less controlled style, better suited for brief studies and capturing moments.
Rats, Jacie... you mean there's no magic in your pen? You mean you did that all on your own? Was hoping for a pen with talent...
Patch, I don't know why I prefer vertical landscapes... maybe because I was once told horizontal format MEANT landscape (and my printer sez so too.) Three out of four that I paint are vertical, probably just for spite. BTW, took a peek at your site and you do have a good loose style with your drawing pen. Will keep one handy... any ole kind.
Probably just because vertical is you favorite orientation..........mine, too. I have to MAKE myself do the horizontal format most times.
Life's getting in the way here, too.....also, flipped out breakers just now with the waxes.
