1978, Late Afternoon, 15x22, oil on paper. Wow! An all time favorite! Can't believe it was painted so long ago, and I'm delighted to still have it. The shadows in this painting fortell the abstraction to come, though many years down the road.
The location was Harrisburg, Penn, when we'd delivered our daughter to a prep school summer swim program. We lived in Maryland at the time, and she was quite the competitive swimmer. I was taken with the shadows that crossed the well landscaped grounds and took a number of photos. I recall that the painting nearly painted itself, except for the little house/roof on the left... it should have been omitted. I love those shadows, which come from a row of trees to the right, out of the picture plane.
