1988, Ficus, 26x40, w/c. Looking back through my digital files, I'm surprised to see how much intermingling of defined series I was doing. Here is an example of using random pattern realistically, in both the 'rug' background and the negative/positive leaf shapes of the ficus. This was a time when the pure grass and other elongated leaf forms were going strong and I see this piece as an example of a desire to break away, or at least explore some variety. I must have felt pretty confident to work on such a large format. This one won top prize at
Mississippi Art Colony.
