Surpise! Blue Angels Over Our Lake!

So there we were... a lovely spring day, dogwoods whispering, azaleas loud with their riot of color (why did I think I needed every color available?) Measuring, sawing, clamping and drilling our new 'above the ivy' hill steps to the lake, when... well, imagine giant alien bugs buzzing around your head, I mean VARROOOOMM!!! Again and again!

Now, we lived on or near Air Force bases for the first twenty years of our marriage, and we've know how they can be... but this really got our attention! It was Friday and the locals are hosting an air show Saturday and I guess they were working on their timing.

And then... WOW! Blue Angels! Four of them making passes over our lake! I whipped out my holster camera and always seemed to be too slow. Later I went through the dozen shots and whoa! I got one!

I understand a B-52 will make a pass over the airfield during the show (no way the small town airport could host a landing) and since that was J's plane, it would be fun to see. Can't go to the show because this isn't the week my "studio assistant" comes to tidy up the place and we've got house guests coming tonight. But they put on a great show for us and I always get a lump in my throat when I see our proud military showing off...

This is so cool! I was on the phone with dad when they flew over. I wish we could make it down there for the airshow today.

My "little" brother played football in for the Naval academy...and one of best parts of a home game was the part when they'd do a flyover/fly THROUGH the stadium. Then a troupe of parachuters would drop out way up high, do these cool pyramid building things in the air, they'd all land on the 50 yd line, one of them with the game ball in his hand. Totally awesome!

I figure those are the kids that couldn't sit still in school... smart, great reflexes, but needing more excitement in their lives than most. Fun to watch!

Great shot! I don't know a B-52 from a... well, you see how bad it is. But this morning 3 very loud some-kind-of-fighter-type planes went over downtown Northampton as I walked home from the Post Office. Is it a nationwide air show??

I doubt that what you heard was for show, probably just training. B-52 was the workhorse of our efforts in Viet Nam. B stands for Bomber and the B-52 is the biggest there is. The oldest still in action is my bet. I only know what affected my life, can't tell the fighters apart.

That's an incredible shot!

All excitement here lately as it looks as tho' Barksdale will get appointed a major command slot bringing in maybe thousands of families!

Wow.....fabulous shot, Karen. The B-52's are still located less than a hundred miles from me if I'm not mistaken. We get some AF flyovers at times, too. I couldn't tell one from the other although as an old air traffic controller DH could.
