Atlanta and Back...

See Through Gallery Steps...

Nice to have friends with friends with homes to share... had a delightful visit with two old travel buddies and one new friend. We made tracks around town to many a gallery, some old, some new. The Castleberry Hill Art District had a gallery walk scheduled and our get-together was planned around that. It's an old area near downtown that is seeing a comeback with cheap rent for artists, lots of funky galleries along with some really fines ones. And lofts... lots and lots of lofts. Our timing was great as we threaded the needle between two cold fronts... could not have asked for better weather to do all our traipsing around.

I'd never seen clear plexi stairs, including landings, and Besharat Gallery surprised and delighted. I hate to think of the money behind this one... even lights in the floors. My pics turned out horrid but the website is worth a visit. The art wasn't too shaby either.

And speaking of art... like any walk-around, you see what you want to see. I zeroed in on favorite artists I've found inspiring in the past... usually focused on surface quality (big surprise...) and enjoyed some exceptional talent. But then, there's quite a bit of redundancy, too.

We visited my gallery to see my hangings before the show comes down... and picked up a check for work that sold prior to this show, which so far, is still available in total. Everyone was talking about the big ArtHouse sponsored by the Atlanta Gallery Association... buy tickets, go see, art from all major galleries, yadda, yadda. I elected to head home and let the others go see a big fancy house with lots of art... wasn't too interested. I was about an hour down the road when I got a call that they'd spotted one of my paintings in the big fancy house... whoa! Nobody told me! Asked for a photo of the setting... that will have to do.

I'm tired (can you tell from the rambling?) and will skip supper as I'm still full... tomorrow, back to getting this next show pulled together... a week until delivery... there's more I could have done to make it special... will have to stand as it is... I'm anxious for signs of spring...

Neat Looking...I've never seen Plexi steps either, but I have seen a glass floor at a building I had a show in at Galveston one time.

At least you had a show...one of mine for later this year was cancelled due to them having fewer openings, etc. You sometimes wonder what they do for you if they don't sell work, don't have a show featuring your work with a reception and you don't see any advertising. Of course I'm a ways away so maybe they do advertise.

All gallery invite sign-ins were for email... very smart IMHO. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, mine was just a featured show, no opening, no mailed invites. I think we'll be seeing more of this type of show. There were a few galleries that were, without a doubt, in very high rent districts and/or sported very expensive decor (the steps.) I'm thinking that some advertising has been cut back and that's sad. Any time there's a list of local galleries, you want to see YOUR gallery listed. Not always the case.

Karen, ArtHouse was definitely NOT the usual "buy tickets, go see, art from all major galleries, yadda, yadda." Sorry you missed it. It was a treat to see the art shown so well. A 20 (now reduced to 10) million dollar house helps, of course, but the galleries had really chosen their best.

My bad for sure, Annette... you know how I am! Glad you enjoyed!
