Archives 1984 - W/C Crayon Geranium - 15 x 22

Here we go, barreling headlong into the second holiday of the season. This is when I dig a little deeper into my hermit-hole and count the days until the third holiday... and the beginning of a new year. Holidays, calendar days set aside to celebrate one thing or another, are not high on my to-do list. But that's just me... y'all go ahead and enjoy, I promise to be appreciative.

I'm wondering what to do next. The idea of creating more inventory for the sake of same doesn't make sparks. I could take advantage of lessening demand and play with new mediums, new ideas, new processes... maybe just go back to basics and hone my drawing skills, focus more on watercolor sketches... there are plenty of opportunities for self fulfillment while still maintaining the business end.

My hope is that the career will take as long to wind down as it did to rev up. That would give me another ten/twenty years in the business ;-) and I wouldn't have to work nearly as hard on the down side of the mountain as I did on the climbing side. But this wobbly economy may have other ideas... hope this isn't a slippery slope!

On your "what to do next"... perhaps you'd be interested in a collaborative art trade sort of project with me? Perhaps we find a common point of inspiration, set some simple parameters, create something and send it off to each other.

I'd love a challenge that is un-related to the work I'm doing now!

Let me think about this, David... a most interesting proposal, maybe we could talk about it again in a couple of months. Right now the business end does include a couple of deadlines that need attention. Thanks for the thought... could be fun!

Time for a quilt?

Getting back to quilting or some kind of needlework was always in the long range plan, Lisa, and should definitely be considered. (Lapwork, my aunts called it) Your art quilts always tug at that particular 'thread' in my heart...
