An Old/New Studio

Archives - 2000 - Span 7 - encaustic 18x18

Just as I start wondering (yet again) what it's all about, I get the following great comment:
Karen-I am one of your regular readers..I discovered you years ago when your studio over the garage was posted by Nita Leland. You were doing the wax works..I just wanted to say that I wish we actually knew each other..Your art, your humor, your politics..all are so fun. Just wanted to let you know that I am inspired by your musings. Thank you from Arizona...
You remember my studio over the garage???? Whoa, girl, we really are old friends ;-) I put up an encaustic in honor of the memory. It was a great studio with the footprint of a double garage and ceilings that soared... even a dormer window.

Hey! I just discovered a page of pics I'd cobbled together back then... c. 1999. I've uploaded the old page and all sorts of memories have been dredged up. We didn't realize we'd be moving on in just a couple of years but it great inspiration and motivation at a time when I was behaving very professionally.

See that little square at the lower eave? That's the vent over my encaustic table. One of the reasons I gave up hot wax in my next studio was the lack of such efficient ventilation. Other reasons, but that was a biggie. Can't bring myself to dispose of all my supplies, however... you never know...

What I would give for a studio that size!!! Love the painting but then I love encaustics ;)

What a studio?!
That looks like a great place to hide away from it all and get on with some work.

It was great while it lasted... I think much of the pleasure was in the planning and watching it happen... as it is with art making. To design the best space I reasonably could... then enjoy for awhile and move on. Such is life...
