An artist friend is in the hospital and has asked for her watercolors. The news reminded me of a painting which was done while recovering from surgery back in 1980. I painted many larger versions but this small study (probably a bad photo for color) was one of the early ones. Daylilies have always been a favorite flower, and studying them via paintings made me more aware of how intricate and involved the older leaves are... much more interesting than the flowers themselves. Elongated leaves became important to my work for another ten years.

Wow! There are a hundred little abstracts in there. All kinds of transitions going on.
