Since this blog was originated to record my return to oil painting, it seems fitting to be reminded of my early works in oil. This is 'Whispering' and is dated 1978, which would put us in Montgomery, AL, where we had a large willow tree in the back yard. I'm especially fond of the handling of the large branch... not so fond of the leaves, especially in the background... which was painted around the branches, and not too successfully.
Since moving to Birmingham, the painting has been a feature on our screened in porch. Even if the elements eventually take their toll, I am enjoying this old friend much more than if it was tucked away in basement storage.
